My Experience of getting admitting to a German University
It all started for me on June 27th 2013 when i decided that its time to start something new. And i decided for a Masters in Computer Science.
First Question that came up was from where. After research i decided upon Germany.
Why??????
Because
Than second thing was searching for college and course. Searching colleges on Internet is real tedious task.
Than one of my best buddies who was doing his Masters in Australia gave me a link (than link is worth million Dollar if time was money)
Here is the link
"LINK"
So now shortlisting was done. What next. It was July 2013 and i had to register for October 2014. So applications were not open at that time. So mean while i decided to gather for all my documents.
Best thing about Germany is apart for one or two colleges there is 'NO GRE REQUIRED'
Following were the few key things to be done before Applications start
My writing skills are not that great and hence most difficult part for me in the whole admission procedure was getting SOP,LOR done. (Only step where i took help from others)
Here's a tip : Like facebook page of Daad "Here" . These angels of God arrange timely seminars, webinars and even a college interaction fest where u can directly meet with college representatives.
Now i cant guide u about UNI-Assist as it was costly for me so I didnt applied to lots of colleges :-(
I applied to 6 colleges and got Admission in Two. (Believe me after first four rejection mail. I was like i was going to waste a full year)
And just after that real task started. Its bit more demanding from then on
Biggest task after that was getting following things done
First step is easy but real Inspiration for this blog was to help out in second step. As it gave me many sleepless nights
It may appear that I am over-exaggerating the situation. But yeah it was terrible experience
By this time I have contacted many students who were going to other German Universities and even my senior at my college via FaceBook ( And they say FB is useless)
Now read following more carefully
1.Opening a blocked account with DEUTSCHE Bank
There are two ways to do.
first one is easy but long while second is easy fast but u have to be clever.
For the first method go to their website. Gather list of all documents take them to German Embassy/Consulate to get them attested and then mail(post) them to Deutsche Bank in Germany along with account opening form. takes lot of time
Second (one which i followed)
Go to Deutsche Bank branch near your city. Ask their representative to open a blocked account for you.
As a requirement you need to open a saving account with them and give INR One Lakh.
After that they will let u fill an online form for a Blocked account. They agent will tell you about 80-20 ratio thing
(I need your attention here)
They will tell u that out of one lakh 20000 is minimum balance requirement and 80000 is for investment and show u all types of plans. Politely say i need time to analyse the plans. (No point is wasting money here when u going to Germany.Purchase Euro later on)
After you get e-mail from German branch for opening of your Blocked account along with your account detail you need to remit the money to your account
Now first thing come to your mind will be to go to your city branch and transfer money. Go with the notion and waste your money or do what i did.
When i went to my branch they said they will charge Rs 2 per euro more than current rates as per RBI guidelines so if rate is 83 Rs per Euro you need to Give them Rs 85.
No big deal right???? a straight 16200 more
While i was writing a check to them for equivalent of 8100 Euro it came to my mind why not i transfer money from my other branch where i had my money deposited (S.B.I in my case). So I went to their NRI Branch (International payment can be done through NRI branches only) and save my time for getting check to be clear
To my amaze they were charging only Rs 1 not 2 so overall savings of 8100 and time of two days
after getting my remittance done i went to my Deutsche branch and closed my account (Not to mention service was so poor they didn't even sent me my account no, atm, checkbook or anything)
2. Tricks regarding Visa Appointment
When you will go to VFS website to book appointment to your amazement you will find how difficult it is to get a near by date.
Trick here is to book a day just after getting your admission letter for a day after a month. And keep it rescheduling as per your situation
also i got a date of 30 July on 1st of july( see how late) but out of curiosity i checked appointment availability everyday
on 3rd july date for 16th july was available and I rescheduled it.
3. After Getting approval mail getting your Passport Stamped
After 15 days you will get a mail regarding your visa result. Now you need to go to VFS center to get it stamped
As a requirement u need to have a travel Insurance valid for at least a month from the day u are entering to Germany
As i mentioned earlier i made some contact with other students also.
They told me not to worry about insurance it will be done in minutes just go to s insurance agent they will help u and it will cost around INR 2000
I was happy. "Don't do it, Do what i did"
I went to policybazar.com and to my amazement policy premium varied from INR 625 to One Lakh
After 50-60 sec of this search policybazar reprentative called me and helped me through the policy (for free)
My travel date is 15 September so i did my insurance from 15 September to 14 October
Then go to VFS with visa mail and travel insurance copy and deposit your passport and after 4 working days go and collect from their
